Albany's Orientation Center for the Blind is operated by the California Department of Rehabilitation. It provides a live-in environment for up to 36 students at a time, in which adults may adjust to new vision disabilities and learn to become self-sufficient again. The program offers a full curriculum of classes and personal adjustment counseling taught by qualified and credentialed teachers and rehabilitation specialists, with instruction customized to each individual student. Students live on-site in a dorm while they are given instruction in areas including braille, cooking, independent travel, computer access, self-health care and fitness.
