The Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center educates, trains and evaluates law enforcement officers. It also regulates statewide training academies and mandated programs to ensure that they meet state certification requirements as established by the Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice through the Police Standards Advisory Council. The Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center is located at the Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy. Located in Grand Island, Neb., the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center offers training in defensive tactics, firearms, driving and emergency vehicle operations.
The Panhandle Research and Extension Center, a unit of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR), houses approximately 14 UNL faculty, most of whom hold joint appointments in research and extension. Faculty disciplines include irrigation management, crop breeding, entomology, weed science, plant pathology, plant physiology, soil and nutrient management, machinery, dryland cropping systems, feedlot and nutrition management, cow-calf and range management, nutrition, and business development. The Panhandle Center was founded in 1910 as a USDA Experiment Station. It also includes the High Plains Ag Lab near Sidney, NE. The Panhandle Center also is the administrative base for the Panhandle District of UNL Extension, which includes 12 local offices in 17 counties in the Nebraska Panhandle and Sandhills.
