Located on King Street in Pottstown, the Police Athletic Association strives to reduce juvenile crime and violence by providing civic, athletic, recreational and educational programs. The PAL program is nationwide and influences the youth communities by building confidence, educating on the dangers of crime and violence and providing healthy outlets for young people ages 5 to 18 to learn and grow into responsible adults.
Since 1897, Huntington Valley Country Club has been providing the area with golf and Tennis. The Tennis Courts are for members only, but visitors may come as guests with members, or for functions such as weddings or other events. The Tennis program includes lessons for all ages and abilities, team competition for adults and students and a women's program. Squash is also available for both adults and juniors.
Often referred to as a "Lefty's Field of Dreams", the creation of Limeport Baseball Stadium was mainly the work of one man, Howard, "Lefty" Fegely. Fegley, also called "Mr. Baseball", was something of a local baseball legend. In 1935, he built a stadium for local teams to practice and play games. The field slopes upwards towards center field, the result of a large piece of bedrock that couldn't be blasted.
Center field wall is an impressive 485 feet from home plate, which is one of the farthest distances possible. According to historical records, the only person to hit a home run was Alex Sabo, who went on to play in the majors with the Washington Senators.
The Stadium grounds now include a museum and a small church. Games start in the spring and run through the fall.
Nine Oaks Club is the local swim club serving Limerick, Royersford, Collegeville, and Upper Providence. The club is a great place to spend the summer months with friends and family. It offers basketball courts, tennis courts, and beach volleyball alongside swimming lessons and special events throughout the summer. Aerials Fit N Fun Gymnastics Center is located in the Shoppes at Valley Forge shopping center on Schuylkill Road in Phoenixville. It offers gymnastics classes for ages 2 to adult in its state-of-the-art facilities. Classes are available all year, including after school programs and summer camps.
The Huntingdon Valley Library is a center of learning with tons of access to books, media, computers and hosts a variety of events throughout the week.
There are plenty of events during the week for people of all ages. Bring preschool kids down for Story Time or come with your friends to play Mah Jongg.
The Huntingdon Valley Activities Association (HVAA), in association with the library, provides sporting experience for children and teens, ranging from inter-community teams to advanced-level traveling teams. Sports offered include basketball, baseball, soccer, roller hockey, softball, field hockey, tae kwon do and chess. The office is located in the Huntingdon Valley Library, adjacent to many sporting fields, and has a free parking lot.
