The Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department was founded in 1933, and it continues to provide emergency service although a fire destroyed much of the station in February 2010. Plans to rebuild a new and improved headquarters are underway.
The fire department has five fire engines, an ambulance and several SUVs and pickup trucks. The station receives around 1,000 EMS calls and 2,000 fire calls per year.
Rockville Volunteer Fire Department Station Three is the flagship station known as "The Rock" and "The Big House." It houses Engine 31, Rescue Engine 33, Truck 3, Rescue Squad 3, Ambulance 38, Medic 39 and other support vehicles.
The centrally located station services as support for the other three stations. The station also serves as the administrative headquarters for the department.
The station was built in 1966, long before the new Rockville Town Square was built.
In addition to providing local fire and rescue services, the company is also a major community meeting place. Its hall is used for a number of special events and meetings and its parking lot traditionally serves as the starting point for the annual Kingsville Fourth of July Parade.
Serving Savage and Howard County since 1938, the Savage Volunteer Fire Department has operated out of the current facility since 1957. The house serves as a voting place and hosts many community events, including the Ladies Auxiliary Basket Bingo. The department is planning to move into a brand new facility in late 2011.

The Ferndale Volunteer Fire Company No. 34 sits along the light rail tracks just off of Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard. It sits at the edge of a quiet neighborhood, but along the busy light rail tracks and B&A Boulevard.
Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company is a full service community organization based on East Sudbrook Lane in Pikesville. The company works to protect the community and uses a wide range of apparatus and vehicles including heavy rescue vehicles, fire engines, tower vehicles and medic vehicles among others.
The company also offers birthday party services for kids in the community, allowing kids to take a tour of the station, learn about firefighting work, get souvenirs, as well as a ride on one of the trucks (weather permitting) among other party services. Call ahead to book a time. The company also offers an online store with a wide range of items including jackets, patches, sweatshirts, posters, books and more.
The Chevy Chase Fire Department primarily serves the area in Chevy Chase encompassing Bradley Boulevard to the south, Wisconsin Avenue to the west, Western Avenue to the southeast, Grubb Road to the east and Beach Drive to the north. In addition to an engine truck, the department also has a hazardous material unit.
