Organized in 1906, the Violetville Volunteer Fire Department provides fire suppression and EMS services to Violetville as well as the surrounding areas of Arbutus, Catonsville, Halethorpe, Lansdowne, English Consul, Westview and Woodlawn. VVFD also runs mutual aid into Howard and Anne Arundel counties, and Baltimore City.
The firehouse, located on Benson Avenue, also has a banquet hall that is available for special occasions.
The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad is comprised of volunteer rescue personnel who serve the residents of Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Northwest Washington, D.C. Rescuers respond to the scenes of emergencies and often team up with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responders to help residents. The fleet includes two rescue squads and seven ambulances.
Responders include trained firefighters, emergency medical technicians and a bicycle emergency response team. The rescue squad dates back to 1939, and it displays a vintage 1973 ambulance at parades and community events.
