The Cherokee County Fire Marshal's Office reviews plans, issues permits and conducts inspections to ensure new businesses, special events and outdoor displays (i.e. fireworks and special effects) are in compliance with county and state fire safety codes.
The Cherokee County Development Service Center is located on the ground floor of the Cherokee County Administration Building and Conference Center. The center is the place to go for building permits, land development permits, planning and zoning services, environmental health services, fire marshal services and business licenses.
The Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center offers miles of trails, a historical and cultural museum, a zip line course, and all kinds of educational programs and activities. The history and culture department features the Lawrenceville Female Seminary, McDaniels Farm, the Chesser-Williams House, Freeman's Mill and the Yellow River Post Office. The exhibits and activities emphasize history, culture and an appreciation of nature and the local environment. Many of the classes are centered around ecology and biology. The Center is also home to its own zip line course, where kids can participate in the Tree Cup Quest.
The Paulding County Superior Court handles civil and criminal cases, with constitutional authority giving it jurisdiction over felony criminal cases, divorce cases, cases seeking equitable relief and regarding titles to land. The court also handles misdemeanors and traffic cases for which a jury trial is demanded by the accused.
The office of the Clerk of Superior Court is available to file, record and retrieve documents filed in the county. Records include civil and criminal proceedings, real estate documents and more. The office is also in charge of the jury system.
The county's Public Works Department oversees five divisions: Engineering, Roads and Bridges, Wastewater Services, Water and Sewer Authority and Stormwater Management, while planning and developing infrastructure to meet the county's needs and ensure quality services for residents.
