The Davidson-Arabia Nature Reserve is a heritage area in the Lithonia community. Available for hiking and biking trails, the reserve is open from dawn to dusk. Special group tours are available.
Cobb County Airport/McCollum Field is now a major general aviation airport conveniently located off Highway 41 in Kennesaw. It is also a reliever airport for Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta. It is now the longest general aviation runway in the metro Atlanta area (6,305' long) and is being reconstructed with concrete.
New high-intensity lights and a full-ILS assists pilots in locating the runway in inclement weather conditions. There are two full-service fixed-base operators, a control tower and 350 aircraft based at the airport. Rental cars are available, as well as, aircraft maintenance.
The department oversees three divisions: Recycling, Solid Waste and Stormwater. The Recycling Division can answer residents' questions on recycling drop-off locations, annual recycling events and more.
The Solid Waste Division deals with waste disposal, with a minimum fee assessed for all loads and a total amount based on the tonnage disposed.
The Stormwater Division deals with drainage problems associated with detention ponds. Those who see such problems should call the division. Drainage problems along a right of way should be reported to the Paulding County Department of Transportation. If a drainage problem is along an easement, it is the homeowner's responsibility to resolve the issue.
This Paulding facility is the county site of the University of Georgia's Cooperative Extension, a statewide educational organization aimed at bringing research-based education to individuals, families and communities. The Extension service is administered through the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Services. Among the offerings of Extension is the 4-H Youth Development program.
Located in Downtown Lawrenceville, this 162-acre park features many amenities. You can go fishing on the 22-acre lake or play baseball on one of the seven fields. It doesn't stop there. You can also take a dance or aerobics class at the community center. The park also has an aquatic center, which includes a couple of impressive water slides.
