The Country School is an independent, coeducational day school that welcomes children in preschool through grade 8. The school offers a challenging academic program that emphasizes hands-on learning and strives to create motivated, enthusiastic and curious students.

Pastor Jim Stoltenberg of Saint John Lutheran Church claims that its affiliated pre-school is the best-known part of his church. Sixty-five children between the ages of three and five years from throughout the area attend Saint John each year. The school has an independent director but the pastor himself participates in the school by providing a monthly story time.
The Legion of Christ is a religious congregation. The college offers a range of programs and specialties and works in collaboration with the bishops and the pastoral plans of each diocese. JC Karate practices the 2,000 year old Tang Soo Do method of martial arts -- a combination of the classic Korean art with influences from the Tang. At JC, there are classes three days a week for Tiny Tigers and Little Dragons, (ages three through seven), and five days a week for Gups (ages six and above). For those 14 and older, there are spinning and cardio kickboxing offered in both the mornings and evenings. Bully defense classes and bully talks are available as well.
JC Karate believes in teaching the powers of a successful life, including patience, concentration, humility, self-discipline, self-control and a healthy body with proper mental and physical ability.
The Southern Connecticut Hebrew Academy, established in 1944, is an esteemed learning establishment for Jewish children from preschool through eighth grade. The school was founded on the ideals of Torah, and ethics and values are incorporated into every part of the school day.
The campus also is home to the Beth Chama High School for Girls, which provides the female students with traditional classes and inter-school conferences, art, drama, dance and Shabbatonim. It is known locally for its BCA Skirts Basketball Team.

Wesleyan University's 340-acre campus and more than 300 buildings lie within blocks of Main Street Middletown. Admission is highly selective – 68 percent of freshmen entering Wesleyan in the 2009-10 academic year were in the top 10 percent of their class. The median SAT scores were 700 verbal, 700 math, 700 writing, and the median ACT score was 32.
More than 2,800 undergraduates and another 200 graduate students attend Wesleyan, pursuing bachelor of arts degrees in 47 major fields. Wesleyan also offers graduate degrees and doctorates in six disciplines and has more than 400 part-time students in a graduate liberal studies program.

Wesleyan's Andrus Field is the oldest continuously used football field in the United States. The program's alumni include NFL coaches Bill Belichick and Eric Mangini.

This small Christian academy has grown from four students in 2007 to 81 in 2010. Affiliated with the Meriden Baptist Church, MidState takes students ages 3 through 18 of all faiths from Meriden and the surrounding towns. Meriden students are picked up by bus, and other students must be driven to the school. Tuition is $3,000 per year, but discounts are available for church members and families with multiple children enrolled.
