This U.S. Post Office is located in the rear of the Artist's Flat & General Store in the Cape St. Claire Shopping Center. It is a full-service post office offering U.S. and international shipping of letters and packages. Priority and express shipping are also offered, and post office boxes are available to rent. Stamps and other shipping supplies are for sale.
Literacy Council of Montgomery County offers tutoring programs and English as a second language classes where English is taught as a second language to an estimated 900 adults annually. Other classes include English for daily living and conversation. This is done with individuals meeting with groups of no larger than three students or working one-on-one. There is also computer-based language labs.
LCMC is funded by individual contributors, corporate and foundation grants. Governmental funding comes from the Montgomery County government, Maryland Department of Education, Literacy Works, the U.S. Department of Education and the United Way/Combined Federal Campaign.
ProLiteracy America, the largest volunteer adult literacy organization, ProLiteracy America is also an affiliate. The LC uses ProLiteracy materials, training, and tutoring methods.

Created in 2003, the Carroll County Bureau of Resource Management combined the departments of stormwater management, forestry/landscaping and water resource planning. This bureau is charged with the protection and enhancement of natural resources, ensuring the safety of landowners and the public, maximizing taxpayer dollars and keeping the county economically strong.
The Center houses the offices of the Friendship Heights Village and also serves as a community center. The halls and multi-purpose room host local artists' work (which changes every month). There are two classrooms and a private patio. The Center offers art and fitness classes and concerts and movie nights at the facility. Council meetings are held the second Monday of most months at 8pm in the multi-purpose room.
On Saturdays in May to mid-November on the front portico of the Village Center is the Twin Springs Market from 9am-1pm.
The area is also served by a shuttle bus that goes to every residential building in the Village, the community center, the Chevy Chase Center and the Friendship Heights Metro stop.
Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department, with locations on River Road in Bethesda and Falls Road in Potomac, features a mix of volunteer and career firefighters. Responders are equipped to respond to a wide variety of emergencies, including fire and EMS needs. Cabin John's renowned swiftwater rescue teams respond to residents in need of assistance along the Potomac River or the Billy Goat Trail, a challenging path that traces the river.
The Havre de Grace Housing Authority manages Somerset Manor, a housing complex set just off Route 40. This private organization is not to be confused with a City-managed housing authority.
The police department is located adjacent to the town office. According to Chief Michael Wynnyck, the University Park Police Department works closely with the Hyattsville Police Department and the Prince George's County Police Department. Although Wynnyck says that the area is relatively safe and there are neighborhood watches in effect, the town's close proximity to highways leads to occasional crime.
Takoma Postal and Business Center is located in Old Takoma Park. Its services include mailbox rental, copies, fax, notary public, key copying, laminating, packing, passport photos and freight services. It also makes rubber stamps and business cards, is a Western Union location and sells office supplies.
Located in a large office builing off of Columbia Gateway Drive, you'll find the administrative offices of the Howard County Fire & Rescue Department. The local Fire Marshall is based out of this office. If you stop by the offices, the security staff will require you to sign in and state clearly your reasoning for the visit.
The district court handles some civil suits, landlord-tenant disputes, moving violations, misdemeanors and some felonies. Any case in the state may be tried there, but its district covers all of Baltimore County. The court does not provide jury trials. No cameras, cell phones, food, drinks or electronic devices are allowed inside.
In the corner of the East Diamond Shopping Center is the Gaithersburg office of U.S. Army Recruiting.
Military and civilian personnel are available on-site to answer questions regarding entering the U.S. Army. Staff will discuss details regarding benefits for college, what is to be expected of recruits and what a typical day would be like for a U.S. Army soldier. Walk-ins are welcome, but an appointment is recommended.

After recognizing the need for a volunteer fire company to serve the Broadneck Peninsula in 1943, this organization was created and housed in the former Arnold Community Hall right off of Ritchie Highway. A new truckhouse was built on in 1957 and a Paramedic unit was added in 1979. Today, the department answers nearly 3,000 calls a year and sponsors annual community activities such as their annual open house in the fall and Santa Run during the holiday season.
The Gaithersburg Community Museum dates back to 1884, when the building served as a B&O Railroad station. Today it sits in the heart of Olde Towne, just feet from the still-active CSX rail lines and a working train station. The building was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1978. It features a rolling stock exhibit of a 1918 Buffalo Creek and Gauley #14 Steam Locomotive, a C&O Railroad Bay Window Caboose, and a circa 1940 Defense Transportation Corps Troop Kitchen Car. A working scale train model is located in the museum as well. But the museum's focus is on the whole history of Gaithersburg, not just its railroad-tied past.
The Greenbelt Community Center was built in 1937 as the original Elementary School. In 1995 it was established as a Recreation Department facility and is currently designated as a historic site by Prince George's County. This 55,000 square foot facility is home to the Greenbelt Adult Care Center, Greenbelt Co-Op Nursery School, Greenbelt News Review, Greenbelt Inter-generational Volunteer Exchange Services (GIVES), Greenbelt Museum, the City's Planning and Community Development department and the Greenbelt Access Television Studio (GATE). Unique facilities located at the Center include a senior lounge & game room, dance studio, gymnasium with stage, ceramic studios, artist's studios, commercial kitchen, art gallery, multipurpose room and rehearsal space. There is a variety of opportunities for facility rentals, summer camps, and recreation, fitness, senior, art and dance programs and classes.
Built in 1994, Division 4 is located on Revolution Street in front of Havre de Grace Middle School. House 4 is home to Engine 514 and Rescue 551, and is led by 1st Assistant Chief Wayne Carroll and Captain Jimbo Sampson.
Montgomery County's Department of Health and Human Services offers support programs for children and youth. Projects include the "Linkages to Learning" program, which offers community services for children and families in the school setting. There are also programs for infants and toddlers and a childcare subsidy program, which provides financial assistance to struggling parents. Established in 1888, the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department provides emergency fire, ladder and rescue services to the residents of Hyattsville, University Hills, Prince George's Plaza and surrounding areas. Volunteer membership is available to citizens at least 16 years of age who are willing to donate their time and talents to helping the community.
