If the morning papers report that the New Mexico State Attorney General is joining with other state officials to challenge the federal governments Clean Air Mercury Rule, or if there is a story about a recent Supreme Court decision regarding freedom of speech, librarians from the New Mexico State Library and New Mexico State University team up to establish direct links to the text of the mercury rules and the Supreme Court opinion under discussion. Each day brings on a new search for the text of a specific piece of legislation moving through Congress, a link to congressional testimony, the text of environmental impact statements posted by agencies for public comment, census statistics that reflect current population shifts, health statistics, and reports released by agencies such as the Surgeon General Report on the Health Consequences of Second Hand Smoke or the Report by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States. The site is intentionally designed to respond to the specific information interests of our state and local community, but many of the links are of broader interest.New Mexico News Plus is updated daily each weekday.
