Kettler Capitals Iceplex is located above the Ballston Common Mall parking garage and is home to Washington, D.C.'s NHL team, the Washington Capitals. Kettler is complete with two NHL-sized indoor ice rinks, a full-service pro shop, locker rooms, a snack bar and plenty of space to hang out. With public skate times every day and a variety of classes offered, anyone can enjoy this state-of-the-art facility. In addition to the facilities open to the public, Kettler also has a 20,000 square-foot training facility for the Capitals. Capitals practices at Kettler are open to the public and free of charge.
The Foxmill Swim Club is a developmental competitive swim team that has won several championships within its 33-year history. Age groups are divided up from 8 & under; 9 - 12 and 13 & up. All strokes, freestyle, breast, butterfly and back, are swam by all ages in competition. The club prides itself on having a terrific coaching staff and the ability to improve a child's ability, while having fun at the same time. Annandale Boys & Girls Club is a second-generation family-run organization. In 1959 Everett G. Germaine Jr. established the club to promote youth sports in the community. Having long been a pillar for the youth in the community, it is the oldest club in the D.C. Metropolitan area. It is a wholesome forum for the youth. This location, in the heart of Annandale, is easily accessible. It is where uniforms are picked up.The club uses local fields and centers for its activities. Some games against other Northern Virgina teams require travel.
The Bragg Hill Family Life Center is a community haven for "at-risk" youth, located three blocks off Fall Hill Avenue. The center offers an after-school educational program, summer camp and various athletic activities for Bragg Hill residents. The BHFLC also offers ESL classes and senior craft classes for adults.
Long Branch Swim & Racquet Club a private, members-only pool and is home to the Long Branch Dolphins division 11 swim team. The pool ranges from two-and-a-half to 12 feet in depth, and features a bright yellow waterslide in the deep end. The club has two tennis courts, and individual and group tennis instruction is available.
The Spring Hill Recreation Center is McLean's popular community-wide swimming pool, fitness center, kiddie camp, martial and arts and yoga center. It has just undergone a $1 million renovation that included a new heating and air conditioning system. The centerpiece of Spring Hill is a heated indoor 25-yard by 25-meter swimming pool and two one-meter diving boards. The center now has softer surfaces for the exercise class rooms and new equipment in the weight and aerobics room.
The Ron Rosner Family YMCA is a non-profit organization devoted to building stronger children, stronger families and stronger communities. Programs encourage family fitness and health and boasts 2 gymnasiums and rooms for cardio fitness, aerobics, cycling and youth activities. There is a 25-meter pool for swimming and aquatic program classes. A nursery is available for children too young to join their moms and dads in activities. This YMCA has a wide variety of programs, classes and groups for people of all ages.
