The Mentor Co-Operative Preschool is truly a cooperative effort. While it has teachers that teach the children, parents also participate and donate supplies. Founded in 1962, the co-op is entirely funded by fund-raising and tuition. Consequently, the preschool is owned by the parents who have children in the school. The co-op's teachers are Tanya Bencar and Margaret Strobel. The preschool is housed in Mentor Plains United Methodist Church, but it is not directly associated with the church.

Standard programing consists of 24 hours in the classroom and eight hours behind the wheel. All behind-the-wheel driving is also personal one-on-one time. A non-refundable $100 deposit is due at the beginning of the first class.
