Kettletown is a 650 acre State park which used to be home to the Pootatuck Indians. The park which occupies land in both Southbury and Oxford borders Lake Zoar and the Housatonic River watershed. The state of Connecticut bought the land in 1950 and converted it to a park. The park offers a variety of activities including camping, fishing, hiking, swimming and picnicing.

This department is responsible for the upkeep of the town's eleven parks and the development of recreational activities for citizens.   Activity booklets are available from the office on Main Street South, which details parks and recreation events like the Southbury Summer Series, Memorial Day picnic and Easter Egg hunt. Diane Schaefer is the director of the department.

Southford Falls State Park is an open public space featuring picnic areas, hiking trails and athletic facilities for baseball and soccer. Visitors can also enjoy seasonal activities such as ice skating, cross-country skiing and fishing.

Ballantine Park is a 25-acre park located on Old Field Road. The park features softball fields, tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, a basketball court, bocce and shuffleboard courts, an outdoor swimming pool, a bath house and a playground for children.
