For a four-season nature experience, Roosevelt Forest in north Stratford, on the Shelton border, is a great destination for residents. With walking trails, a scenic pond and picnic area, Roosevelt Forest is a peaceful experience in fall, winter, spring and summer.
The forest was created as part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) program during the Great Depression.
The 250-acres property is reportedly the only town-owned forest in the state. This Stratford gem is open to those with proof of residency.
The city of Bridgeport Parks Department houses both its park supplies as well as the Parks and Recreation department here. Charles Carroll is Bridgeport's Public Facilities and Parks director.
