Located off of Route 44 near the Avon Town Offices and local shops, the Green offers a place for residents to take a walk or relax with friends. The dedications on the gazebo, which was built in 1994, as well as the nearby brick walk and veterans' wall in the Town Green, show the sense of community in Avon. The Recreation and Parks office is located in Building 6 across the street.
The Ellington Parks and Recreation department offers year-round sporting events and activities for town residents. The department is committed to providing safe and cost-effective activities. Something the department is looking into doing is offering some "family" type events in addition to the regular programs. The town Little League, co-ed teams and even the Summer Concert Series at Arbor Park - in addition to many more - are run through this department.
Fernridge Park features a playground, picnic tables, wading pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, athletic fields, restrooms and a full-sized outdoor swimming pool. Although there are no grills, visitors may bring their own. Summer pool programs include recreational and adult lap swims as well as lessons for swimmers of all skill levels. The pool is open to the public from the end of June through late August. The park can be rented by individuals, businesses or organizations to hold meetings, parties or sporting events.
As an attractive building in a residential neighborhood, Flax Hill apartments has 35 one and two-unit apartments for rent. There is an on-site laundry. Some units have decks.

Just outside of the center of town, Waveny Park is New Canaan's ultimate public park. With entrances on South Avenue and Lapham Road, Waveny Park is open to all town residents and covers 250 acres of land offering everything from paddle courts and over three miles of jogging and walking trails, to a theatre and an art center.
Host of New Canaana's Annual Fourth of July Fireworks and Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Waveny Park is also home to the Powerhouse Performing Arts Center and the Carriage Barn.
Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the Waveny mansion is the park's centerpiece and was once a summer home to some of New Canaan's most elite residents. Now, the castle-sized building is available for rent for special events and parties and is a popular wedding venue.
The New Canaan Recreation Department office is also located in the Waveny house.
Golfers can often be found practing their drive in the open field by Waveny house, and there's also a 12-hole frisbee golf course in the park.
Next to the Waveny Park Swimming Pool is Spencer's Run Dog Park - a designated, fenced section of the park that invites all of our furry best friends to roam free. Waveny Park requires that dogs remain leashed at all times except when inside Spencer's Run Dog Park.
Ridgefield Bark Park is an outdoor area for canines and their humans. The dog park is supported by the Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue. It offers separate areas for small dogs and all dogs. The grounds are fully fenced in and feature water, benches, built-in toys and plenty of room for running and playing.
Irwin Park is a people sanctuary, with benches scattered around its vast orchards and fields, and trails that wind through the woods around the park. There's no playground, but there's often lots of quiet.
Opened in 2005, Irwin is New Canaan's newest public park. Three quarters of a mile of flexible surface trails for jogging and walking were added in 2008.
Also, the town's Health Department and land use offices are housed at the park.
The Canton Parks & Recreation Department provides the town with recreational programs and opportunities. The department maintains the city's main park, Mills Pond Park, which has athletic fields, courts and a swimming pool, and also maintains soccer and baseball fields throughout the town. Classes and programs available through the department include fitness, sports instruction, boating, yoga and college workshops for adults, as well as science programs, aero-fitness classes, martial arts instruction, after-school programs and summer camps for children. The best way to register for a program is through the Parks & Recreation Department's website.
The Fisher Meadows field is Avon's soccer hub. Local and travelling athletes, including teams from Avon High School and Avon Old Farms, gather to play here. The park also features baseball fields. Teams can celebrate after the games in pavilions alongside the fields. An adjacent lake is frequented by boaters. Hikers and cross-country skiers will also find trails in the wooded part of the land.
Eaton's Farm is located off Meadow Road in Farmington. This Farmington treasure is a local favorite for farm fresh vegetables, pumpkins, flowers and firewood. The expansive grounds are ripe with an assortment of seasonal produce and ornamental flowers. The farm's store is situated in a greenhouse. In a nod to old-fashioned service, when the store is not open, customers can make a purchase by selecting an item and leaving the payment in the self-serve box.
