Willamette University was one of the earliest coeducational institutions in the United States, with women attending its school of medicine in the early 1870s. It is a nationally recognized liberal arts college, with graduate programs in law, business and education. The university enrolls more than 2,500 students in various degree programs, including majors in art, music, technology, classical studies, exercise science, humanities, geography, international studies, public management, and rhetoric and media studies. It organizes more than 70 cultural clubs and associations for students. Willamette University also offers various athletic programs and activities, such as baseball, volleyball, softball, tennis, cross-country, and track and field. Located in Salem, Ore., the college has a more than 60-acre campus.
