The Country School is an independent, coeducational day school that welcomes children in preschool through grade 8. The school offers a challenging academic program that emphasizes hands-on learning and strives to create motivated, enthusiastic and curious students.
Located on a 23-acre campus, the school offers small class sizes and a program that includes science, technology, engineering, the arts and math (STEAM) as well as global awareness, physical education, outdoor education and service learning. The campus includes a hiking trail, children's garden and rope courses.
First Steps Learning Center is a large, friendly and professional child care facility run out of a large house with an expansive, fenced-in playground. This state licensed and fully certified day care center takes care of children between the ages of 6 weeks and 10 years, offering a full range of programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. First Steps has been encouraging and nurturing children in Southbury for more than 20 years, and is looking forward to serving the community's residents for many more.
The center is a year-round preschool program that is open every day except for 12 major holidays and cancellations due to snow. An executive director, four lead teachers, eight teaching assistants and a cook, who makes breakfast, hot lunches and snacks for the children, work at the center.
The curriculum includes classes for music, science and yoga. The center, which opened in 1969, also has a fenced outdoor playground and promotes gardening during the spring and summer.
Located in Milford's downtown arts district, the Lee Lund Studio of Dance is a family-owned and operated school that has served the Milford community for over 25 years. The Lee Lund Studio has two large studios and offers beginner, intermediate and advanced dance classes for children and adults.
