In 1935 Mary Carpenter began working with her family at Carpenter's Beach Meadow at the age of 17. Her and her family's hard work has led to the establishment of the 301 summer cottage development off Matunuck Beach Road. Even at the age of 92, Carpenter still continues to work on the property to assure its preservation for future generations of families that may reside at the compound. The community remains the same as it was in 1935 in that it is still a very family-oriented association in which the people are even closer than the proximity of their houses to one another.
