Martha's Vineyard Community Services oversees a network of programs that provide necessary services to the island community, including access to health, education and human services. Those programs include Connect to end Violence, Early Childhood Programs, Disability Services and the Island Counseling Center. It also manages the Thrift Shop in Vineyard Haven, the proceeds of which go toward funding Community Services programs. Wiet Bacheller serves as president of the board of directors.
Foothill AIDS Project is a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive support services to those affected by or at risk for HIV/AIDS. Services include housing, transportation, chronic care case management, food assistance, substance abuse and mental health treatment, education and outreach and homeless prevention to those requiring assistance in eastern Los Angeles, western Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Bay Area Crisis Nursery is a safe place for children who have been abused or neglected. It has 20 beds for children between the age of birth and five years old, as well as a separate facility for older children. There is a Respite Care program that offers support to families directly after a crisis. Bay Area Crisis Nursery regularly holds toy drives and other special events for the public.
