Bethany United Methodist Church is a growing and dynamic congregation. Its roots date to the 1800s, but more recent history has involved three area churches combining under one roof along Brookside Road in 1967. Membership has exploded, requiring expansion in 2009 to include a Catasauqua campus. The most recent excitement involved groundbreaking early in 2010 on an additional campus. Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission is the third oldest Rescue Mission in the country. Founded in 1878, we have reached out to the homeless in Philadelphia for more than 130 years. Originally named Sunday Breakfast Association, our name was changed a few years ago to reflect our expanded services as a Rescue Mission. Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission serves the homeless through two locations in Philadelphia: a shelter in Center City and a transitional home for women in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. The Center City shelter also houses a long-term recovery program for men. The Mission does not receive government funding and relies on the generous contributions of caring individuals, families, churches and businesses. Donations are supplemented with income from two thrift stores.
