Holy Name Catholic Church is located on Harmon Street, and has been a part of the Birmingham community for more than 80 years. The church's ministry program is active in its members' lives, with a variety of programs for seniors, bereavement services and various outreach programs.
The church is active in promoting the health of its parishioners with its Parish Health Ministry Program. Holy Name provides blood pressure screening, CPR training sessions and various speakers throughout the year.
The church building features its three large stained-glass windows, all designed by Detroit native, Margaret Cavanaugh.
Groves-Walker American Legion Post #346 is a Fraternal Organization of Veterans and a vital member of the Farmington and Farmington Hills community. Each year, the post organizes the Memorial Day parade and ceremony in Memorial Park, as well as a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in downtown Farmington. The post sends more boys to the annual Boys State event every year than any other post in Michigan, and it also offers Girls State through the Post Auxiliary. The post sponsors a Boy Scout troop, is active in Legion Baseball and has a golf team.
First English Evangelical Lutheran Church is located on Vernier just east of Mack Avenue. The church was erected in 1959 with an addition completed in 2004 that includes a full-size regulation gymnasium and a commercial kitchen. If you know about "Arts & Apples," you know about Paint Creek Center for the Arts. As the organizer of the popular fall festival, the PCCA brings together artists and art forms for community enjoyment. But the center is also much more: A gift gallery inside its downtown building features jewelry and artwork from local artists. A full schedule of classes offers lessons in painting, ceramics and photography, among other subjects. And community outreach programs throughout the year promote the arts and encourage creative opportunities.
Canton Friendship Church is located on Beck Road, just north of Saltz Road. Services are led by founding Pastor Mike Norton. A variety of ministries and classes are available for children of all ages, as well as for teens and adults. Numerous "Life Groups," designed for members to interact and learn from each other's experiences, are also available throughout the week. Sunday services are held at 9am and 10:45am.
The Fenton Goodwill is a second-hand thrift shop. It offers various apparel and household accessories and appliances. Goodwill was established in order to promote job opportunities within its communities. This location is managed by Linda Jerrold.
Located on Adams Road, between Hamlin and Avon, University Presbyterian Church offers Sunday services, fellowship and religious education classes. In addition to Sunday school for pre-K through high school, UPC also has New Member classes, Summer Camp and nursery care. There are many activities for all ages.
Manresa Jesuit Retreat House specializes in conference and group retreats. Since 1926, Manresa has offered up its professionally manicured grounds that feature paths, statuary and gardens. The Retreat House also hosts mass, yoga classes, picnics, concerts and other events.
Oak Pointe Church is a non-denominational Christian church located just west of Wixom Road on 10 Mile. The church is modern and very spacious. The pastoral leadership and management team is led by Bob Shirock, senior pastor. The church has several ministries for different age groups, such as Adventureland for infants through 5th graders, The Rock, for students in 6th through 8th grade and 707, for students in 9th through 12th grades. The church also sponsors global missions and encourages participation by the congregation. True North Christian Counseling is located on the church premises.
The Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1992 and is the economic promotions arm for the Village of Dexter and surrounding townships. The chamber hosts its annual golf outing, Christmas Eve Luminary Project and the Downtown Dexter Summer Concert Series.
The chamber's Board of Directors is composed of nine members with an advisory staff from the Village of Dexter, Dexter Village Council, Dexter Historical Society, Dexter Schools, Dexter Senior Center, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department and the Dexter Area Fire Department.
