Knights of Columbus St. Lawrence is named after the St. Lawrence church and school next door. The organization is a member of the National Knights of Columbus Association, which was founded in 1882 to promote charity, unity and fraternity. Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic Fraternal Service Organization. There are currently more than 1.8 million members in 15,000 councils across the world.
Southpoint Community Christian Church is big church with a congregation of approximately 2,500 members. Located on Fort Street, it has a quiet location and a very spacious parking area. There are many entrances to the church and the office is located next to the parking area. The church has a children's welcome center, a classroom for preschool children and a big auditorium. Services at Resurrection Parish are led by Pastor Kenneth Chase. It is located on the south side of Warren Road, between Beck and Ridge roads. Music ministries are offered for kids and adults of all ages, and the church is also active in the community through outreach programs.
Central Woodward Christian Church is part of a newer denomination in Christianity called the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The church seeks to be community-oriented and works to serve the community, whether local or global. Central Woodward welcomes newcomers each week to its Sunday services. This brick church sits on the southeast corner of Main Street and Romeo Road, just north of downtown Rochester. The church was founded well over a century ago, was organized in 1927 and achieved parish status in 1955. The friendly staff at St. Philip's includes Reverend Geoffrey T. Boyer, rector of St. Philip's since 2003. The church offers Sunday school, music programs, bible study groups and child care during Sunday service and is also involved in the Crop Hunger Walk and other charitable missions. Passersby are encouraged to visit the church, which welcomes men, women and children from all walks of life.
Temple Israel is located at the south side of Walnut Lake Road, just east of Drake Road. This reform Jewish temple offers the daily minyan service, the traditional Shabbat evening service and Shabbat morning services outdoors in the summer, in addition to community gatherings including bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, tish, Brotherhood and Sisterhood meetings, and sponsored travel for mission and recreation. Temple Israel offers a strong emphasis towards interfaith outreach as well as classes in Jewish education for every age range, music groups and senior groups, which meet on-site.
The Farmington Hills Baptist Church merged with Woodside Bible Church in 2010. Sunday worship services take place at 11am. Kids weekend activities are available during all Sunday morning services. The church also offers Camp Woodside for grades 3 - 6 during certain times of the year; global and local outreach programs and a Woodside Women's Ministry program. The church has six more campuses in the tri-county area. Its Troy campus broadcasts a weekly TV cable show, and the church publishes a newspaper called The Woodside News. The Troy Public Library has grown from a collection of 1,000 books to a 40,000-square-foot facility with more than 320,000 items available for checkout. The library moved to its current location in 1971 and circulates more than a million items annually. The Troy Public Library is part of the Suburban Library Cooperative.
In addition to books, the Troy Public Library houses a Teen Resource Center, a children's room and a computer center and offers a Special Needs Collection, audio and video media, digital books, several classes and reading programs, as well as services for job seekers and access to e-resources.
