The Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance Corps is a volunteer and career EMS system that has been protecting the community for 53 years. The organization provides emergency medical services to a 16 square mile area of Suffolk County, which encompasses 30,000 individuals. It provides 24 hour response services, operating several ambulances and emergency vehicles. In addition to medical emergencies, it responds to technical rescue as well as providing first response life safety to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Volunteers are always welcome and are trained by the Corps.
Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance has vehicles equipped for both basic and advanced life support. The ambulance corps primarily transports patients to Southampton Hospital, but according to emergency protocol, the corps may travel to hospitals further west or transfer a patient to a Suffolk County Police Medevac helicopter. Department meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 7pm. Southampton Village trustee Paul Robinson is the village board liason to the ambulance corps.
The Nyack Community Ambulance Corps is a volunteer-run and -staffed emergency medical service. In addition to providing on-call urgent care and transport, it has a number of community outreach programs, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation training, defibrillator training and drunk driving awareness workshops. The Dobbs Ferry Volunteer Ambulance Corp. provides emergency medical transportation services for residents of Dobbs Ferry. Volunteers must be over 18-years-old, and can be either an EMT, driver or an aide.
The Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps is an organization composed of a variety of individuals. In regard to age, career students, mothers raising their children, doctors and lawyers. On duty or off, the trained volunteers serve the emergency medical needs, from providing a band-aid for a scraped knee to performing CPR on a patient in cardiac arrest.
