The Land Division is a public service agency that works under the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. It administers several waste management and remediation programs pursuant to the authorities granted by the provisions of Alabama Environmental Management. The division has primary jurisdiction over the disposal of solid and hazardous waste within the state and with the remediation of contaminated sites. The Land Division conducts and supports a variety of programs for hazardous and solid waste, remediation, scrap tire, and brownfields and voluntary cleanup. It also conducts the waste preapproval program that generates solid waste and submits hazardous waste determinations. The division is located in Montgomery, Ala.

The Alabama Department of Public Safety is a statewide law enforcement agency that protects human lives and property by enforcing state laws, deterring criminal activity, and ensuring highway and public safety. Established in 1935, it maintains administrative, services, driver s license, highway patrol and protective service divisions, as well as the Alabama Bureau of Investigation. The Alabama Department of Public Safety operates the Col. E. C. Dothard Safety Education Museum, which includes a monument of department members killed in the line of duty. The museum also exhibits patrol vehicles, javelins, various weapons, gambling and narcotic paraphernalia, early radio equipment, shoulder patch collections, and badges and uniforms worn by patrol officers through the years. McDuffie Terminal is one of the largest import terminals in the United States. The facility has a ground capacity of more than 2 million tons. It maintains shiploaders and ship unloaders, as well as berths. The facility also maintains barge unloaders and loaders. McDuffie Terminal is a part of the Alabama State Port Authority, which has been in operation since 1928. The Alabama State Port Authority s facility covers an area of over 3,500 acres. Its warehouse and open areas cover an area of nearly 4 Million square feet. The Alabama State Port Authority imports and exports lumber, plywood, paper, cement and chemicals, as well as aluminum, iron, steel and copper products.
