Founded in 1912, the Detroit Regional Yacht-Racing Association was originally founded to aid local yacht clubs in establishing their summer race calendars. Now a registered nonprofit, the group promotes yachting, boating and competitive amateur sailing. The DRYA serves as a governing body that establishes race rules and handicaps. Twenty six member clubs make up the DRYA, each providing various services to meet the sailing and recreational needs of its membership.
