The Hudson School is a private middle and high school that serves grades 5-12 and provides a rigorous college preparatory education. The school offers classes in many subjects including language arts, science, math, philosophy, and foreign languages such as French, German, Spanish and Japanese. Two years of Latin classes are required in order to graduate. Students are also required to complete 20 hours of community service before graduation.
The school was founded in 1978 by current principal Suellen Newman, with the financial assistance of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.
The school day begins at 8:30am. High school students, with their parents' permission are free to eat lunch off campus so long as it is nearby.
St. Paul Roman Catholic School is located in the rear of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. This school teaches K-8, offering a library, computer lab, science lab, and Internet in each classroom. The curriculum is designed to balance both secular and religious education. Uniforms are required.
Christ the King is a private parochial high school and a member of the Cristo Rey Network. Its curriculum consists of English and other languages, mathematics, religion, science, social studies, visual and performing arts, health and physical education, financial literacy, service learning as well as honors and AP courses and ACT preparation. Additionally, the school offers a corporate internship program. The school is led by principal Cynthia Bielskie.
Pope John Xxiii Regional High School is a private Catholic School. It offers education for students in grades 8 through 12. It also offers a number of different sports and activities for students such as hockey, basketball, mock trial club and more.
Columbia High School (CHS) has students from South Orange and Maplewood. Dr. Lovie Lilly is the principal. Famous grads (and inductees to the CHS Hall of Fame) include Lauryn Hill ('93), Elisabeth Shue ('81), Andrew Shue ('85) and Paul Auster ('65). One of the most recent improvements to the school was converting the industrial arts section in the B-wing into a Black Box Theater used by the school's Parnassian Society for theater productions. Columbia competes in the Iron Hills Conference and is historically strong in soccer and track and field.

The Lower School is located at the Irving Laurie Building, 122 Gregory Avenue. The Upper School, which comprises middle and high school, is at the Eric F. Ross Campus on Pleasant Valley Way. Each campus has a full-time security guard during school hours.
