Southwood Elementary Schools' motto, "educating people the world needs most," greets visitors who enter the front office of Southwood Elementary School, which serves students in kindergarten through fifth grades. Southwood was recognized by the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) with a School of Distinction Award in 2008 and 2009 for improvement in state test scores.
Thanks to an initial VH1 Save the Music Foundation grant that funded Magic Strings, a self-contained choice program, Southwood is able to provide strong music education along with its emphasis on overall arts education.
Extracurricular activities including a running club, an after-school drama club and after-school sports sponsored by Enumclaw Parks & Recreation round out the student experience at Southwood.
A strong PTA also helps to support a broad range of needs in the school.
