The Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is a nonprofit organization responsible for preserving the railroad property of important historic significance and remarkable scenic beauty. It is headquartered in Albuquerque, N.M., and has various other locations in New Mexico, including one in Chama. The firm preserves and interprets the railroad and supports its operation for the people of Colorado and New Mexico. It also conserves the historic structures and rolling stock that are not used by the operator for passenger train service. Its steam locomotives carry visitors over high trestles, through tunnels and along narrow shelves above gorges. The firm provides an adventurous experience for those seeking something different.
