URI Child Development Center is a pre-school run by the university's Human Development and Family Studies department. The program's curriculum introduces students to fundamental academics and the arts. Teachers nurture students' interests and accommodate different learning styles. Enrollment is available in half or full-day pre-school instruction and a full-day Kindergarten schedule. Families of prospective studies can submit an application on the center's website.
The Village Co-Op Nursery School is a small establishment located just off Kingstown Rd., next to the Scallop Shell Nursing Home.
The Barbara M. Tufts Cooperative Preschool, founded in 1966 by the United Methodist Church, offers preschool services to all children regardless of their parent's ability to pay. While not a strict cooperative, parents do volunteer in the school about once a month. The school is located in back of the United Methodist Church's new location on South County Trail.
Growing Children of Rhode Island, located just north of the old South Road School, is a school that aims to nurture the creative minds and spirits of young children by immersing them in an arts-based education. Specializing in child care, preschool and kindergarten, it is a clean and safe environment to leave a child in according to the faculty.
The center operates with a no closed door policy, which means that not only are parents allowed to come in at will and participate, no door with the exception of the facility's main door is ever fully closed.
Housed at Calvary United Methodist Church, Calvary Christian Preschool is a non-denominational weekday program that offers morning classes for children ages 3 and 4. Curriculum includes Bible study, story-time, music, finger puppets, cooking experiences, computer development, creative art projects, science and more. The school's philosophy is that children's education should be encourage "fun, as well as social, emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual growth."
For students at The Children's Workshop, learning doesn't stop at the end of the school day. This preschool functions as a parent cooperative learning center, run by the parents for added integration. With small and close-knit classrooms, students are given extra attention. The Children's Workshop also features speakers from the community, including dentists, yoga instructors and firefighters.

This nursery school, set for ages three and four, is located in the St. Paul's parish across the street from St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The nursery school is also part of the church's ministry, featuring a nondenominational religious component to the program. Students in this nursery school are taught in small class sizes.
