Founded in 1912 as a boys boarding school, Holy Cross Catholic School serves students in kindergarten through grade eight. Its academic curriculum includes religion, math, science, English, literature, social studies, computer application, library, music, physical education, art and Spanish. The school takes part in various sports activities, such as football, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading and chess. Migrant Seasonal Head Start, also known as MSHS, is a federal program that works to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of the children of migrant and seasonal farmworkers. It offers educational, health, nutritional and social services to enrolled children and families. MSHS provides grants to local public and private nonprofit agencies to provide child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families. The program focuses on helping preschool children to develop early reading and math skills. Migrant Seasonal Head Start serves children up to 5 from low-income families. It develops language, prereading and writing skills and basic number concepts. The program s staff members receive training in child development and early childhood education. Migrant Seasonal Head Start is a part of the Oregon Child Development Coalition, which is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1971 and ensures access to early childhood care and educational opportunities for children.
