East Kentucky Power Cooperative, also known as EKPC, is a nonprofit organization that provides wholesale electricity to more than 15 distribution cooperatives in over 85 counties in Kentucky. Founded in 1941, the organization serves nearly 500,000 homes, farms and businesses. It provides power through plants located in Mason, Clark and Pulaski counties in Kentucky. East Kentucky Power Cooperative operates renewable energy plants in Boone, Laurel, Greenup, Hardin and Pendleton counties in Kentucky. It also operates approximately 2,800 miles of transmission lines, as well as hydro power and gas peaking units. East Kentucky Power Cooperative is a part of Kentuckys Touchstone Energy Cooperatives.

E.W. Brown Generating Station generates electricity through hydroelectric, fossil fuel and combustion turbine units. The plant is located on the banks of Lake Herrington in Kentucky and utilizes the Dix Dam Hydro Plant, which is used primarily when heavy rainfall results in above-normal lake elevation. The facility s conventional fossil fuel units consist of three generators that can produce up to 700 megawatts of electricity. The fossil fuel unit burns more than 1.4 tons of coal annually. The station s combustion turbine facility is equipped with six turbine units. The units are fueled by natural gas or fuel oil. E.W. Brown Generating Station employs more than 140 people. It is located in Harrodsburg, Ky.
