Millard Park is at the very dead end of Ravine Drive. It is a beautiful drive just to reach the park itself. Once there, the 14-acre park offers beach access, fishing, a perennial garden and a lot of natural flowers and trees. A parking permit is required.
Formerly known as Centennial Park, Danny Cunniff Park was renamed, remodeled and rededicated in 1999 after the Park District received the largest private donation ever from the family of Danny Cunniff. Danny fought a brief but valiant battle with acute myeloid leukemia, which he ultimately succumbed to 37 days after his diagnosis.
Danny Cunniff Park offers something for everyone. Some of the park's features include two lighted baseball fields, a fishing deck, a nine-hole Frisbee-golf course, two lighted soccer fields and 12 outdoor tennis courts. There are playgrounds for tots, preschoolers and grade schoolers. The sled hill is very popular after it snows. In addition, there is a 1.5-mile walking path around the park.
Mooney Park emcompasses six-acres in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood of Highland Park. It offers baseball/softball fields as well as basketball courts. There is a walking path around the park as well as a playground. The park is surrounded by beautiful trees that make the park feel isolated from the rest of the neighborhood.
Cloverdale Park is located on Eastwood Avenue, but street parking is available on Cloverdale. This park offers two tennis courts as well as basketball courts, with two nets set lower for younger children. There are playgrounds for both the toddlers and preschooler, as well as elementary school-aged children. A baseball/softball field is also available for use by everyone.
Moraine Beach is a designated natural area used extensively by locals as a dog park. A portion of the park is fenced in for off-leash exercise for dogs at the beach. A permit is required for any dog using the beach. It also has picnic areas.
Jens Jensen Park is named in honor of the famed landscape architect. Jens Jensen Park is the only park in Highland Park designed by Jensen, a Ravinia resident and nationally known landscape architect. The park contains native shrubs and trees, natural materials and a stone council ring. It was dedicated to Jensen in 1980. There is an informative kiosk and a perennial garden. The acre park also features a picnic area.
Old Elm Park is located on Krenn Avenue. There is street parking available on the west side of the street. Old Elm Park has a unique playground area for toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-school-age children. There are two tennis courts and two baseball/softball fields. There are picnic tables and bathrooms.
Rosewood Park and Beach, consisting of 11 acres, is divided into Upper Rosewood and Lower Rosewood. Upper Rosewood is an oak savanna bluff with trails that lead down to a wooded ravine and the shoreline. Lower Rosewood is a wooded ravine that leads to the Lake Michigan shoreline with beach access. Rosewood Park has trails for hiking, parking lots, beach access, playgrounds and picnic areas. There is a lifeguard on duty during the summer months from 10am - 6pm.
The Deer Creek Courts is an athletic facility in Highland Park. The grounds feature six indoor tennis courts. The company's goal is to provide a fun and affordable tennis experience to Highland Park residents and their families. Both group and one-on-one lessons are taught, and individuals and leagues compete daily.
Heller Nature Center is a nature preserve in north western Highland Park complete with trails, a nature center with museum and several features throughout the site such as a pond, bonfire circle and bird habitat. The center offers a piece of wild Illinois that is not otherwise available in the area. Heller is also available for meetings, birthday parties and other events. Park Rangers are happy to talk about the land and explain the exhibits or answer any questions about the center.
Lincoln Park is located just south of Lincoln School. The park has two baseball fields, a football field and a soccer field. There is a trail that goes around the park for walking or running. There is a playground for the tot and preschooler as well and a shelter with bathrooms for public use.
Larry Fink Memorial Park has fields for soccer, baseball and football; a basketball court; tennis courts; a fishing pond; and playgrounds.
Woodridge Park is a beautiful park found at the end of Barberry Road. On its twelve acres, there is a lot to do. here is a baseball field, a basketball court and tennis courts. There is a playground for the tot, preschooler and elementary school-age child. There is a short walking trail around the park. and this park has been designated a natural area.
Olson Park is a large pretty park with amenities such as a .5 mile walking path, soccer and baseball fields, and a playground.
Sunset Woods Park is a well-known park in Highland Park and it covers 38 acres of property, all of it fully utilized. Eight of those acres have been designated a natural area. Sunset Woods Park offers a picnic area, as well as facilities for many activities, including a paved path for walkers and runners. For tennis players, there are seven courts all of which are lit; four are soft courts, three are hard courts. There is a skatepark for the skateboarder and an ice rink in the winter. Athletic fields at the park include those for baseball, football and basketball. There are also four playground areas at the park that suit the needs of small children through elementary school age children.
West Ridge Park is located on Ridge Road, but parking may be better by Red Oak School, on Red Oak Lane. The park features two baseball/softball fields, soccer and football fields. There is a .4 mile paved path around the park as well as a playground for tots, preschoolers and elementary school aged children. A batting cage area is also available for practicing.
