The Friendship Center is a very unique child care and development center in that it has utilized members of the neighboring senior community, Heath Village, to help provide staffing. The center focuses on health and safety for the children, and because of that, it's been a huge success since it's opening in 1992. Its classes are filled to maximum capacity each year, and dozens of seniors have volunteered to be a part of it. The Friendship Center has only increased the size of its building but not the size of the classes, which have remained at 42 children, from 2 1/2 years old through kindergarten, from the start.
Created in 1962, Heath Village is a full-service retirement community offering a plethora of activities, from Bible study and bridge games to walking and hiking. The campus also provides four different types of living accommodations: from independent apartments to living quarters with full-time nursing staffs. Heath Village is also an election voting center for Washington Township.
