The Half Hollow Hills Community Library serves the residents of Dix Hills and Melville with two locations. The Dix Hills Building, which serves as the main branch, is located across the street from one of the district's two high schools, Hills East. The Melville building is located across the street from one of the districts seven elementary schools, Sunquam Elementary. This public library serves 43,616 residents and circulates 512,735 items per year.
Opening for the first time on December 8, 1929, the Station Branch of the Huntington Public Library began with an initial collection of 700 volumes, including donations from the Old Memorial Library building (the Village library) and community members. Today, the library offers a variety of resources and educational programs that include Beginner English classes; fitness and yoga classes; computer and cooking classes. The library also hosts a popular Anime Club for teens. It also offers homework help for students throughout the week, public computers and special collections of books, including foreign language books in French, Hindi, Korean and Spanish, and bilingual books for children.
