The Lakes Region Planning Commission is a non-profit, voluntary association of local communities who pool their resources to obtain a highly trained professional staff to provide a wide variety of services. Our region consists of 30 towns: Alexandria, Alton, Andover, Ashland, Barnstead, Belmont, Bridgewater, Bristol, Center Harbor, Danbury, Effingham, Franklin, Freedom, Gilford, Gilmanton, Hebron, Hill, Holderness, Laconia, Meredith, Moultonborough, New Hampton, Northfield, Ossipee, Sanbornton, Sandwich, Tamworth, Tilton, Tuftonboro, and Wolfeboro. It was created in 1968 and recognized by the State of New Hampshire as an official regional planning commission in 1970. The LRPC is governed by a board of 50 Commissioners, nominated by the planning boards of member communities. A 12 member Executive Board, elected from the full Board of Commissioners, provides overall policy direction and guidance, and oversees the LRPCs financial affairs.

The Public Works Department: Highway Division maintains the town's roads year-round. Services include paving and repair projects during the warmer months and plowing, sanding and salting in winter. Free wood chips are available for pick up in front of the Turkey Hill Road facility during the summer. In winter, they offer free sand. The Highway Division is responsible for maintaining over 160 miles of local roadways, fourteen bridges and town sidewalks.

Founded in 1885 and located in Manchester, N.H., the Manchester Health Department collects and monitors health-related information to identify physical, mental and environmental health problems. It offers tuberculosis and sexually transmitted disease prevention services through educational, clinical care and case management programs. The department provides presentations on topics related to communicable diseases for the benefits of schools, colleges and health care providers. It offers counseling and testing services for people who suffer from AIDS. The Manchester Health Department conducts medical evaluation services for immigrants. It reviews plans, issues permits and inspects on-site sewage disposal systems. The department monitors the quality of food through routine inspections and reinspections, as well as conducts complaint investigation and food sampling programs. It also offers lead poisoning prevention and mosquito control programs. The Manchester Health Department provides vision, hearing and scoliosis screening services for students in kindergarten through grade 12.
