It was formed in New York in 1985 to protest the New York Posts grossly defamatory and sensationalized AIDS coverage. Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is one of the leading organizations that work directly with the news, entertainment and social media in the United States. It serves as a storyteller, watchdog and advocate and empowers real people to share their stories, holding the media accountable for the words and images they present and helping grassroots organizations communicate effectively.

The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center is one of the oldest organizations advocating gay rights in the United States. The organization was founded in 1971 and is dedicated to enriching the lives of lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender people. The large building is a glass tower with bright rainbow banners marking the entrance. Enter through the main entrance and check in with security to gain access to counseling services, economic empowerment programs and job interview workshops.
