Located on the corner of Hoadly Road and Route 234, Coles District Volunteer Fire Department, formerly known as the Independent Hill Volunteer Fire Department, was started by six local residents to provide fire and rescue services to the area.
The department was established in 1949. Active, junior and associate members comprise of the current firefighting force. Its specialized membership size allow a variety of trained personnel to serve the community, including two-dozen volunteer firefighters and a nearly equal number of Emergency Medical Technicians, as well as certified EMT, CPR and fire suppression instructors.
This volunteer fire station is a member of the Prince William County Fire and Rescue Association and sits adjacent to Lake Jackson, a tributary of the Occoquan River. The primary response area encompasses nearly 22 square miles, approximately 4,200 homes and over 12,000 residents. Personnel cover the station during the day on weekdays, and a 24-hour Medic unit is available. Volunteers work at the station on the weekends. The station services the county as well as parts of Manassas, Manassas City and nearby counties.
The new Yorkshire Volunteer Fire Departmen station opened in 2005. It currently serves approximately 2,800 homes, 10,000 residents, and 150 businesses in the greater Manassas area. The department has approximately 35 Virginia State certified Emergency Medical Technicians and 30 Virginia State certified Firefighters. The station is staffed weekdays, weeknights, all weekends, and holidays.
The Manassas Park Fire Department is a government department serving the town and the surrounding areas, working to save lives and help with emergencies.
