Byron Fire Protection District, formed in 1958, serves a population of more than 7,500 people in Byron, Ill. Its fire protection classifications offer one of the lowest fire insurance rates in Ogle County and Northern Illinois. The district employs full-time firefighters and paid-on-call firefighters. The district maintains engines, a more than 95-foot aerial, an over 3,500-gallon tanker, advanced life support ambulances, a grass truck, and a specialized rescue van for dive calls. It also provides a technical rescue trailer for confined spaces, hazardous materials, trench and rope rescue and structural collapse calls. Its special training teams include confined space rescue, vertical and water rescue, and recovery and vehicle extrication.

The Elmhurst Fire Department provides emergency services for 43,000 residents through its two stations, located on the north and south sides of town. Fire fighters and emergency medical service personnel answer about 6,000 calls a year, or about 16 calls a day.
