The Elmhurst Fire Department provides emergency services for 43,000 residents through its two stations, located on the north and south sides of town. Fire fighters and emergency medical service personnel answer about 6,000 calls a year, or about 16 calls a day.
This fire house location is at 404 N. York St., and the second can be found at 601 S. York St. Seven fire fighters and two medics are on board at each station. They each also have an engine, ladder truck and ambulance, in addition to backup vehicles — a squad, command truck and boat.
The city's first fire house was built on Schiller St. in 1884, and in 1893, the city's first volunteer fire department was formed.
The Cary Fire Protection District provides fire, rescue and advanced life support ambulance services to the residents of Cary, Trout Valley, Oakwood Hills and to small sections in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills. Other areas include places in Lake and McHenry counties. The CFPD has a staff of 6 full-time members and 58 on-call/part-time members that serve in 2 stations in Cary.
The Illinois Office of State Fire Marshall and the McHenry/Western Lake County Emergency Medical services provides training to all the members of the CFPD.
The CFPD has many events throughout the year for adults and kids to learn fire safety, school safety, home safety and CPR.
