The U.S. Department of Health &Human Services offers more than 250 educational and health care programs. The department also provides financial assistance services for low-income families. It offers Medicare and Medicaid insurance plans for senior citizens and people with physical disabilities. The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services also provides substance abuse treatment and prevention services, as well as maternal and infant health care programs. It offers preschool educational and teenager pregnancy prevention programs. The department also provides medical emergency services during the situations of natural and man-made disasters that include earthquakes, thunderstorms and terrorist acts. It employs more than 64,000 staff members. The departments programs are administered by more then 10 operating divisions.
