Agriculture and Labor Program, located in Winter Haven, Fla., has been providing children and family services since 1968. The nonprofit organization is a direct descendent of the Agricultural and Labor Project, established by the Coca-Cola company to improve the quality of life for farm workers in their Florida citrus operations. ALPI serves the socially and economically disadvantaged children and families throughout Florida. It operates as a central agency for subsidized child care services for more than 4,500 children every year. All the directly operated child care and Head Start centers are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, state licensed and Child and Adult Care Food Program-certified. Its awards and recognitions include the Gold Seal of Excellence from the Florida Department of Children. ALPI also administers a variety of community service programs for migrant and seasonal farm workers and low-income families.
