The BSRHA development is diverse and extensive, there is experience and in-house capability to undertake planning, design, and project management." mission statement The Bering Straits Regional Housing Authority has been working aggressively since Tuesday Dec 27th to respond to the power outage emergency in Savoonga. Initially our village based employees worked to limit the potential freeze-up damage by turning off and draining the water service and heating system in as many homes as possible before they froze-up. Additionally the staff in Nome have worked tirelessly to marshal a response team of plumbers and supplies out to Savoonga as soon as possible. Tuesday evening, January 4th, BSRHA had 5 plumbers and a ton of supplies in Savoonga. Together with local hires we anticipate that there will be 4 full plumbing crews working by the end of this week. Depending on the severity and extent of damages the initial Response Team finds, BSRHA has 3 more full crews of plumbers and 2 electricians ready to travel. The Response Team is working closely with the Tribe, the City and the States Emergency Response Team to respond to as many problems as they can in the entire community.
