Founded in 1949, the Kotzebue Electric Association is member-owned, nonprofit cooperative that generates and supplies electric power. It serves clients in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors. The cooperative administers power theft prevention and wind energy programs. It has more than 800 members and installs turbines. The cooperative also installs underground service connections, meters and emergency generators. It is responsible for locating, furnishing, operating and removing primary and secondary voltage meters. The Kotzebue Electric Association additionally offers billing, meter disconnection and electrical inspection solutions. The cooperative works on the Seward Peninsula project in association with the Naknek Electric Association and the Unalakleet Valley Electric Cooperative.
