Mingus Mountain Academy was founded in 1985 and offers individual treatment and educational services for emotionally and behaviorally at risk girls. The academy s more than 120-acre campus consists of multiple dormitories, a North Central Association-approved educational center, clinical complex, and administration and spiritual growth centers. The facility operates therapeutic group homes that prepare individuals for independent living, family reunification, foster care and adoption. It has a licensed outpatient clinic that provides psychiatric evaluations, individual, family and group counseling, and medication monitoring services to children and adolescents 3 to 18 years of age. The academy offers various extracurricular activities, including hiking, camping, student newspaper, drama, art and music. Its equestrian program offers equestrian care and maintenance training. Located in Prescott Valley, Ariz., the academy is operated by the Sequel Youth and Family Services and is approved by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospital Organizations.
