Barrow Utilities & Electric Cooperative, also known as BUECI, is a member-owned, nonprofit organization that provides electricity and natural gas. Established in 1964, the organization serves more than 4,000 residential and commercial customers. It produces over 68 million gallons of treated water annually. The organization maintains power and water treatment plants. Barrow Utilities & Electric Cooperative has a water storage capacity of nearly 1.5 million gallons. It can process up to 345,000 gallons of water per day. The organization operates approximately five generators that use high-pressure natural gas. It organizes various academic, sports and cultural events. Barrow Utilities & Electric Cooperative manages a staff of more than 50 people.
