CHILD is an award-winning,  year-round special eductaion school for children with learning differences and behavioral disorders, such as ADHD and autism spectrum conditions. CHILD's mission is to provide innovative school programs and therapies that promote social, emotional and academic development for children with special needs. Teachers develop individual education plans and employ occupational therapy, speech therapy and mental health counseling to rehabilitate students so they can return to a traditional classroom.

Since 1973, Island Books has created a comfortable, homey shopping atmosphere. Large, wooden bookshelves, topped with an antique typewriter collection, are filled with every category of books. Old tables and desks display stacks of the latest fiction and nonfiction books. Customers can play a game at the chess table or find a wingback chair to browse through a book.

One third of the book store's 4,000 square feet is devoted to the children's section. Walls of picture books, a large playhouse, toys, games and books for every group of young readers fill this inviting room. A series of children's story hours are offered throughout the year. Island Books hosts author signings and community school fundraising events. The friendly staff is knowledgeable and helpful in book selections. Special orders and free shipping are available.
