About: The John Jay Homestead is the retirement home of statesman John Jay, the first chief justice of the United States and the second governor of New York (between 1795 and 1801). 

It was built by him in 1801, and five generations of his descendants lived there until the 1950s. In 1958, it was acquired by the state, renovated and refurnished with Jay-family heirlooms, including a collection of portraits by American artist Gilbert Stuart. The homestead was designated a state and national historic site in 1981.

Hours: The historic house is open for tours during the times listed below, or by appointment. The premises, however, are open year-round, from dawn to dusk.

From April to October: It is open from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday, and 0n Sunday from 11am to 4pm.

From November to December: It is open between 10am and 3pm, Tuesday through Saturday, and 0n Sunday from 11am to 3pm.

From January to March: It is open between 10am and 3pm, Wednesday through Saturday, and 0n Sunday from 11am to 3pm.

About: With the help of a modest collection of books donated by the Katonah Village Improvement Association (now known as Katonah Village Improvement Society), the Katonah Village Library opened on December 10, 1880.

It boasts the area's largest reference section. Besides the general adult division, it also houses a well-stocked children's library.

Membership: Anyone who is a Bedford resident and has a Katonah postal address is eligible for a library card, which are issued free of cost. Anyone who works, goes to school or owns property in Bedford may also apply for a card.

Services: Like all public libraries in the Westchester Library System, the Katonah Village Library provides free access to the Internet and computer terminals.

Special services include a meeting room for use by community groups, large-print books and a microcomputer for public use. The library sponsors an annual winter concert and poetry series as well as public lectures.

Collection: Its collection contains more than 60,000 items, including books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, audiobooks and CDs. It also has more than 200 periodicals, with an archive going back five years, microfilms of The New York Times from 1960 and of local papers from 1900. Moreover, there are more than 1,500 recordings, business reference tools and the complete New York Consolidated Laws Service.

From 1880 to 1967, the Hopkins Family owned Muscoot Farm. At that point Westchester County acquired the property to help preserve the area's agricultural history. Today the farm is open to visitors, who can stroll through the original barns and visit animals. Muscoot also offers year-round events and activities for children and adults.

Charles Department Store has been in business for more than 87 years. The ground floor of the shop — marked by hardwood floors and a stamped tin ceiling — features housewares, appliances, cookware, a shoe department and the store's specialty clothing line. Upstairs, shoppers will find quality clothes for men and women from brands such as Eileen Fisher, Pendleton, Barbour, Patagonia, Woolrich, Filson and Canada Goose. The Harvey School is a Katonah based academic institution specializing in college preparatory services for students in 6th through 12th grade and presided over by headmaster Barry Fenstermacher.  The Harvey School designs a challenging academic curriculum, supports students with a faculty of education professionals and provides athletic and elective opportunities including participation in local sports leagues, dance, chorus, theatre and instrumental music.  Students interested in AP classes can pursue college level courses in biology, American history, calculus, chemistry, computer science, English, European history, Latin and Spanish.  Online educational services are available through the eHarvey program, while an optional 5-day boarding experience is available to students in the high school program.
