Heather Adkins, MD, is an experienced and compassionate neurologist specializing in the treatment of headaches and facial pain in Durham, North Carolina. As the founder of Adkins Headache Center, Dr. Adkins brings more than 10 years of experience and extensive training to the diagnosis and management of headaches, migraines, vertigo, neck pain, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, post-concussion syndrome, and trigeminal neuralgia. Dr. Adkins offers personalized pain solutions, including lifestyle counseling, prescription medications, and Botox® for pain relief. Dr. Adkins attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky, where she earned her medical doctorate. She completed her residency in neurology and a fellowship in headaches and facial pain at the University of North Carolina Medical Center. Dr. Adkins relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where she worked at Nashville Neuroscience, a headache clinic affiliated with Vanderbilt University. Upon returning to North Carolina, Dr. Adkins was an assistant professor in the headache division at Duke University in Durham. Through her formal education, training, and experience teaching, Dr. Adkins felt called to move into private practice to better serve her local community and founded Adkins Headache Center. Dr. Adkins is board-certified in neurology and is a member of the American Headache Society, the Southern Headache Society, the American Academy of Neurology, the American Medical Association, and the American Medical Women’s Association. She focuses her care on providing individual attention to patients from puberty through adulthood and aims to maintain a comfortable, laid-back environment, where patients can feel relaxed and supported. In her free time, Dr. Adkins enjoys spending time with her daughter and Yorkipoo dog.
