Founded in 1986, Jos Mateos Ballet Theatre, in Cambridge, Mass., is a nonprofit school and professional performance troupe. The company regularly presents original works and new interpretations of classical ballets choreographed by Mateo. It is distinguished as one of the only ballet companies in New England to produce an entire repertory of original works by its own resident choreographer. The school has a Young Dancers program, summer program and open class program for adults. Jos Mateos Ballet Theatre also operates three satellite schools through partnerships with South Shore Conservatory in both Doxbury and Hingham and with the Cape Code Conservatory in Falmouth. Ballet Theatre has initiated the Dance for the Commonwealth, a series of eight outreach programs related to the company and school. The ballet theatre also provides an open class program for adults, summer programs and YouthWorks, a performing group of students who present public performances.
