The Kendall County Sheriff's Office patrols unincorporated areas throughout the county, providing security for the county courthouse and running the county jail. The sheriff's main office is located in the Public Safety Center, in the county government center campus, on Yorkville's west side.
This is one of several Cook County government buildings located in western Skokie. Administrative issues concerning the running of the county are handled here. Many common issues can be handled on site, though it is possible to pay fines and apply for other documents online.
The Kendall County Animal Control enforces state rabies vaccination laws and county ordinances against dogs running at large in residential, unincorporated areas. All dogs are required to wear rabies tags off the owners' property.
Animal Control staff also take reports on dog bites and pick up stray pets in contained areas. The staff runs a shelter from which stray animals may be adopted.
Hours for viewing animals available for adoption are: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
The Kane County Judicial Center is home to courtrooms that are a part of the 16th Judicial Circuit which comprises Kane, Kendall and DeKalb County. Chief Judge Keith Brown heads the circuit and Doug Naughton serves as the court administrator.
In addition to civil and criminal courtrooms, the center also houses the office of Kane County State's Attorney John Barsanti. The Kane County Juvenile Justice Center is located on the same campus. It can be reached at 630-406-7481.
The Lake County Department of Health is located just west of downtown Highland Park. This agency oversees, administers and provides public health care services to the county in general. With an appointment, various health services can be obtained here, as well as some records.
The Kane County Law Library and Self-Help Legal Center offers free legal resources for residents in need of counsel, as well as attorneys and governmental employees. A large selection of law texts are available in the main library in the Kane County Judicial Center.
Computers also are available for research and patrons can use conference rooms for private consultations. The library is continually trying to find new programs and services for those in need of free legal advice.
This office manages the people who are summoned to appear for jury duty. Names for jury duty are selected randomly from voter registration and driver's license lists monthly, based on the number of people the presiding judge wants to report for duty. The office is in the Kendall County Courthouse in the government center campus on Yorkville's west side.
