Originally organized as the Woodbury County Health Department in 1916, Siouxland District Health provides a variety of services to the residents of Woodbury County, Iowa. It provides skilled nursing; a health program for seniors; nutritional services for women, infants and children; laboratory services; health planning and environmental services, such as water testing; restaurant inspections testing and counseling for human immunodeficiency virus; childhood immunizations; prevention of lead poisoning; inspections of public swimming pools; investigations pertaining to communicable disease; and tuberculosis prevention. Siouxland District Health is a division of the county s government. The department is headquartered in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Johnson County Agricultural Association exists to support the Johnson County Fairgrounds and the 4-H Club. The association also supports the commmunity center for Iowa City and Johnson County as well as helping area youth groups.

Public health nurses make home visits to families with communicable diseases; environmental health specialists ensure safe food, water, and housing; and all work with community coalitions to advocate for public policies to protect and improve health.

Home Care
A priority of Lee County Health Department is to assist persons to remain in their own homes in a safe and healthy environment. The following services are provided in the comfort and familiarity of a persons home.

Skilled Nursing, Home Health Aides, and Homemakers are available through a variety of payment sources. A Registered Nurse visits with individuals to determine what is right for each person. Payment may be available through Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and private pay. A sliding fee scale is available to assist with private payment. Personal care and homemaking services are funded in part with funds from Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, Inc.

Hospice
Philosophy & Mission
Hospice is a Medicare certified program of Lee County Health Department. Hospice provides care and support to the terminally ill and their families in their homes, assisted living facilities, and in long term facilities.

The mission of Hospice is to enhance the ill persons quality of life by alleviating pain and other symptoms and by providing physical, emotional, and spiritual support to patients and families. Hospice care may be provided to people of all ages and with any type of life-limiting illness.

The Visiting Nurse Association is a nonprofit agency that serves the residents of southwestern Indiana, southeastern Illinois and western Kentucky. Founded in 1988, the association provides long-term and home care services. It offers physical, speech and occupational therapies. The Visiting Nurse Association provides personal and wound care assistance and medical social services. The association offers disease management, nursing and dietary services. Its Charlier Hospice Center, a 24-hour inpatient facility, provides specialized clinical and palliative care solutions. The Visiting Nurse Association additionally sponsors free clinics, educational seminars and special events. It provides services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
